Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

The fuel filters are located on the right side of the machine in the engine compartment. The water separator bowl (1) is located on the bottom of the primary fuel filter. Attach a hose (3) to the bottom of the drain valve in order to catch the fuel. Open the drain valve (2) on the bottom of the water separator bowl. Allow the water and the fuel to drain into a suitable container.
Close the drain valve.Note: The water separator is under suction during normal engine operation. Tighten the drain valve securely in order to prevent air leakage into the fuel system.
Close the engine hood.
