Connections of "Solenoid 1 Return"
This diagnostic code is associated with the "solenoid 1 return" circuit. The FMI 05 means that the Transmission/Chassis ECM has determined that the current for the return circuit of the solenoid is below normal.The "solenoid 1 return" circuit provides a return path to the ECM for the left and the right secondary steering solenoids.Conditions that can cause this diagnostic code to be activated are listed below:
The return circuit for one or both of the solenoids is open.
Both of the solenoids have internal open circuits at the same time. This situation is unlikely.
The ECM has failed. This situation is unlikely.Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure, and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOIDS
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the left solenoid for secondary steer and the right solenoid for secondary steer from the machine harness.
At the right solenoid for secondary steer, measure the resistance of the solenoid coil between contact 1 and contact 2.
At the left solenoid for secondary steer, measure the resistance of the solenoid coil between contact 1 and contact 2.Expected Result:The resistance measurement for each solenoid is less than 50 ohms.Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement for each solenoid is less than 50 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The resistance measurement for one or both of the solenoids is greater than 50 ohms. There is an open in one or both of the secondary steering solenoids.Repair: The secondary steering solenoid with the resistance measurement that is greater than 50 ohms is faulty. Replace the faulty solenoid.One faulty solenoid would not cause the ECM to activate the CID 1674 FMI 05 diagnostic code. After the solenoid is replaced, verify that the CID 1674 FMI 05 diagnostic code is still active. If the diagnostic code is still active, perform the next test step.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUITS OF THE SOLENOIDNote: The purpose of this step of the test is to verify the integrity of the energize circuits. The energize circuits are used to check the condition of the return circuit in the next test step. A problem in one or the other of the energize circuits of the solenoid would most likely not cause the ECM to activate the CID 1674 FMI 05 diagnostic code. The ECM will activate either a CID 2175 (secondary steer left solenoid) diagnostic code or a CID 2176 (secondary steer right solenoid) diagnostic code for a
