Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine or release of air pressure or oil pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To help prevent possible injury before testing and adjusting any air system or hydraulic system, perform the procedure in the Testing and Adjusting, "General Information" section.
This test will show the following conditions if the conditions exist:
The torque converter inlet relief valve is closed.
The torque converter inlet relief valve is correctly set.
Inlet pressure to the torque converter must not be over 955 95 kPa (139 14 psi) with cold oil. Higher pressures will damage the torque converter. Adjustment of the inlet relief valve must only be done during a bench test.

Transmission hydraulic control (A) Location
Install a 6V-7949 Plate Assembly in location (A) .
Use a coupler and a hose to connect 8T-0849 Pressure Gauge (2000 kPa (290 psi)) to the 6V-7949 Plate Assembly .
Be certain that the torque converter oil is at the correct operating temperature 82° to 139°C (180° to 250°F).
Start the engine while the parking brakes are engaged.
Run the engine at the high idle rpm with the transmission in NEUTRAL. The pressure on the gauge must not be greater than 955 95 kPa (139 14 psi) at any time.
When this test is complete, stop the engine and remove the test equipment.
Charging pump section is operating at the correct pressure and the torque converter inlet pressure is too low.

Transmission hydraulic control (1) Torque converter inlet relief valve
Torque converter inlet relief valve (1) is open.
There is too much leakage in the transmission hydraulic control.
There are bad seals in a clutch of the transmission. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Transmission Hydraulic Control Clutch Pressure - Test".
Torque converter outlet relief valve (1) is not correctly set. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Relief Valve (Torque Converter Outlet) Pressure - Test and Adjust".The torque converter inlet pressure is too high.

Selector and pressure control valve (1) Torque converter inlet relief valve (2) SpacersTorque converter inlet relief valve (1) is set too high.Perform a bench test on torque converter inlet relief valve (1) in order to determine if the relief valve is correctly adjusted. Remove 145-0107 Spacer (2) in order to get the correct relief pressure.
