At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the fill cap on the hydraulic oil tank only when the engine is stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
1. Drain the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic oil tank. 2. Mark or identify wire (1) for assembly purposes. Disconnect wire (1) from cold weather starting aid (2). 3. Mark or identify electrical wires for installation purposes. Slide the rubber guard up the cable out of the way. Remove nut (3) and disconnect the three electrical wires from the starter. Disconnect wire (4) from the starter.4. Remove bolt (5) and disconnect ground strap (6). 5. Mark or identify electrical wires for installation purposes. Disconnect two wires (7) from alternator (8). 6. Mark or identify electrical wires for installation purposes. Disconnect three wires (9) from switch and temperature sending unit. 7. Mark or identify electrical wires for installation purposes. Disconnect two wires (10) from the fuel injection pump. 8. Disconnect and plug fuel inlet line (11) from the fuel lift pump. 9. Disconnect and plug fuel return line (12) from the fuel filter. 10. Disconnect engine oil drain line (13). 11. Disconnect and plug speed control hose (14) from speed control cylinder (15).
Be sure all wires and hoses are disconnected from the engine. Be sure that all tie wraps supporting wires and hoses at the engine are removed.
12. Remove two front motor mount bolts (16). At this time a wooden block should be placed under the end of one of the hydraulic pumps on the pump drive group. Place it opposite the pump mounting so that it will support the weight of the pumps when the engine is separated from the pump drive group. 13. Remove two clamps (17) and position the two hydraulic cooling tubes out of the way for engine removal. 14. Install tool 6V-3144 Load Leveler (A) and 8S-9906 Ratchet Puller (B) as shown with a hoist. 15. Remove all pump drive group mounting bolts (18) at the engine bell housing. Using the hoist, lift the engine until it lifts off the front mounts. Pull the engine forward until the drive shaft spline disengages from the pump drive group. The pump drive group rubber mounts should allow the pump drive to drop until it is supported by a wooden block under one of the pumps. Remove the engine.16. Carefully remove the engine from the machine. The weight of the engine as a unit is 590 kg (1300 lb). 17. Remove eight bolts (19) from drive plate and shaft (20). Remove drive plate and shaft (20) from the engine flywheel and shaft pilot bearing. 18. Remove four bolts (21) from shaft pilot bearing (22). Remove shaft pilot bearing (22) from the engine flywheel. For installation of the engine, reverse the removal steps.
