Information:
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Look at the sight gauge to check the coolant level. The coolant level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and do not drink. Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
1. Drain the engine cooling system. The capacity of the cooling system is 221 liters (58.5 U.S. gal).
Make sure all of the pressure is released from the air system before disconnecting any air lines. Failure to release the pressure can cause the air to release rapidly when the lines are disconnected and could cause personal injury.
2. Mark and identify all hose assemblies and tube assemblies for installation purposes.3. Disconnect three hose assemblies (1), (3) and (4) from air compressor (5). Cap and plug all openings.4. Disconnect tube assembly (2) from air compressor (5). Cap and plug all openings.5. Disconnect hose assembly (9) from air compressor (5). Cap and plug all openings.6. Disconnect two tube assemblies (6) and (8) from air compressor (5). Cap and plug all openings.7. Remove three bolts (7) and the washers. Using two people, remove air compressor (5) and the gasket from the engine. The weight of air compressor (5) is 24 kg (53 lb). Install air compressor (5) in reverse order of removal. Replace the gasket prior to installation of the air compressor. Refer to "Bendix Westinghouse Air Compressor", REG00914, for disassembly and assembly information.
