Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin. Be sure that the components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal.Start By:a. remove clutch brake 1. Remove four bolts (1). Using Tooling (B) to remove cover (2). Remove O-ring seal (not shown) and shims (3) from cover (2). 2. Remove retainer (4) and bolt (5). 3. Remove bevel gear shaft assembly (6) from the winch case. The weight of the shaft assembly is 22 kg (50 lb). 4. Remove six bolts (7). Use Tooling (B) to remove cage (8) and shims (9) from the winch case. 5. Remove spacer (10), gear (11), and spacer (12) from shaft assembly (6). 6. Remove ten bolts (13) and gear (14) from shaft (6). 7. Remove O-ring seal (15) from cage ((8). 8. Use a press and Tooling (A) to remove two bearings (16) from cage (8). The following steps are for the installation of the bevel gear and shaft assembly. 9. Lower the temperature of two bearings (16) and install in cage (8). 10. Install O-ring seal (15) on cage (8). 11. Install gear (14) on shaft (6). Secure the gear to the shaft with ten bolts (13). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 120 20 N m (88 15 lb ft) 12. Install spacer (10), gear (11), and spacer (12) on shaft (6). For determining how many shims, refer to step 21b.13. Use Tooling (D) to install shims (9) and cage (8).14. Apply 7M-7456 Sealant to threads of six bolts (7). Tighten to a torque of 49 3 N m (36 2 lb ft) 15. Install Tooling (E) on shaft assembly (6). 16. Install bevel gear assembly (6) in the winch case and cage (8), use Tooling (E) to install bevel gear assembly (6). 17. Install retainer (4). Apply 7M-7456 Sealant to threads of bolt (5). Install bolt (5), finger tight, final tightening of bolt (5) to be completed after installation of clutch brake. 18. Install cover (2) without shims (3A). Install four bolts (1), tighten the bolts. Measure the gap between the cover and cage (8). Take this dimension and subtract 0.05 mm (.002 in).19. Remove cover (2). Install shims (3A), thickness of shims (3A) determined in step 18. Install cover (2) and bolts (1). Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 49 3 N m (36 2 lb ft). 20. Before
