Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Make sure that the pin bores are clean prior to the installation of the bearings and lip seals.
Note: Check the seals and the bearings in the pin bores of the stick. If any of these components are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Apply Tooling (F) on the bearings and seals in the stick.

Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device in order to position the stick in the boom. Align the pin bores of the two components. The weight of the stick, the bucket cylinder, and the bucket control linkage varies from 4535 kg (10,000 lb) to 4925 kg (10,850 lb).

Slide the stick to one side until the stick contacts the boom. Measure total Clearance (Y) between the stick and the boom at the pin bore. The total clearance must not be more than 0.8 mm (0.03 inch). If the total clearance is less than 0.8 mm (0.03 inch), the addition of shims between the stick and the boom will not be required. If the total clearance is more than 0.8 mm (0.03 inch), add the correct thickness of shims in order to obtain the necessary clearance.

Use a suitable lifting device in order to position pin assembly (5). Use Tooling (G) in order to install pin assembly (5). The weight of pin assembly (5) is approximately 91 kg (200 lb).

Install bolt (6). Tighten the bolt to a torque of 800 100 N m (590 75 lb ft).

Connect hose assemblies (1) on each side of the boom.

Remove the suitable lifting device from the stick.
Fasten a suitable lifting device to the rod end of the stick cylinder. Raise the stick cylinder, and remove the wood block. Align the pin bore in the rod end of the stick cylinder with the pin bore in the stick. Install the original shim pack between the stick cylinder and the stick pin bore.ReferenceTo determine the thickness of the shim pack, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick Cylinder - Install".
Use a suitable lifting device and Tooling (G) in order to install the spacer and pin assembly (4). The weight of pin assembly (4) is approximately 43 kg (95 lb).
