Engines:
G3606 (S/N: 3XF1-UP)
G3608 (S/N: 4WF1-UP)
G3612 (S/N: 1YG1-UP)
G3616 (S/N: 4CG1-UP)
Several control strategy improvements have been made to the engine protection system on G3600 Engines. These improvements are effective with the following engines: G3606 (3XF225-UP), G3608 (4WF148-UP), G3612 (1YG186-UP) and G3616 (4CG166-UP). Engines in the field can be updated, if the dealer submits a request and a personality module.Diagnostic Code 5XX-08 (Cylinder Continuous Misfire)
The Cylinder Continuous Misfire diagnostic has been changed for those applications that require a misfire shutdown. Formerly, the shutdown would activate after a delay of seven minutes. This delay has been reduced to three minutes.Note: For engine applications that require only an alarm, the misfire diagnostic is unaffected.Diagnostic Code 541-00 (Oil Filter High Differential Pressure)
The Oil Filter High Differential Pressure diagnostic has been changed. This change will help eliminate nuisance warnings and unnecessary shutdowns. Formerly, the alarm had been set to 70 kPa (10 psi). The shutdown was formerly 250 kPa (36 psi). The alarm code has been removed from the revised control strategy. The shutdown point has been increased to 300 kPa (43.5 psi).Postlube Cycle Duration
The standard postlube cycle time in the control strategy has been set at one minute. The control strategy on all G3600 Industrial Engines now includes a three minute postlube cycle. The three minute postlube cycle provides additional postlubrication protection.Status Control Module Settings
The following Status Control Module settings have been introduced in order to improve engine protection.Crank Cycle
The recommended crank cycle time is now 40 seconds. This feature will limit the engine to one crank cycle. If the engine does not start in the first crank cycle, a problem exists. Correct any problems before you attempt another crank cycle. The following recommendations are being added to the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
Unburned gas in the exhaust manifold can ignite when the engine is started. Personal injury and/or property damage can result. Use this procedure to clear the engine and exhaust system of unburned gas. Before starting an engine that was stopped by terminating the ignition system (E-stop or Over Speed), turn the gas supply OFF. Crank the engine for approximately 30 seconds in order to clear any unburned gas from the engine and exhaust system. It may be necessary to repeat the starting process several times on a G3600 Engine to achieve the recommended cranking time with the gas supply turned OFF.
Only allow one crank cycle when attempting to start a G3600 Engine.Excessive cranking of the G3600 Engine with the gas supply turned ON, can result in unburned gas in the exhaust system. Unburned gas in the exhaust system can ignite when the engine is started. Personal injury and/or property damage can result. Use this procedure if the engine fails to start after one crank cycle.Turn gas supply OFF. Crank the engine for approximately 30 seconds in order to clear any unburned gas from the engine and exhaust system. It may be necessary to repeat the starting process several times on a G3600 Engine to achieve the recommended cranking time with the gas suply turned OFF.
