This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs.The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS51230" as the Part Numberand "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program.Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

PROBLEM
The turbochargers may fail on certain 3516B series engines due to compressor wheel high cycle fatigue of the splitter blades. This service letter is to be applied only to compressor wheel splitter blade failures on the 180-5433 Turbocharger Cartridge (reference Image 1).

ACTION REQUIRED
For the engine serial numbers listed above in the Affected Product section, inspect for compressor wheel splitter (short) blade failure during normal PM intervals. Inspect for compressor wheel splitter blade failure by removing the air cleaner element and visually inspecting the condition of the compressor wheel. If a failed blade is found (reference Image 1), then replace failed 180-5433 Turbocharger Cartridge with 287-7208 Turbocharger Cartridge per the attached rework procedure.

PARTS DISPOSITION
All 180-5433 Turbocharger Cartridges that are replaced as part of the Rework Procedure must be returned to the address below in order for the warranty claim to be settled. Failure to return the 180-5433 Turbocharger Cartridge will result in the rejection of the Cartridge parts cost portion of the claim. All 180-5433 Turbocharger Cartridges must be properly packaged and labeled with the service letter program number.

Rework Procedure
1. Follow the removal procedure within publication "Turbocharger - Remove ? Rear Mounted Turbocharger", SENR6564 to remove the turbocharger from the engine.
2. After the turbocharger is removed, replace the turbocharger cartridge using publication "Turbocharger ? Disassemble" and "Turbocharger ? Assemble", SENR6564.
ALL units will require the gasket kit listed.
3. Inspect the intake tract for debris all the way from the air cleaner to the turbocharger.
4. After the turbocharger is assembled, install the turbocharger on the engine using publication "Turbocharger - Install ? Rear Mounted Turbocharger",SENR6564.
