Engine News, SEBD9826, 7 November 2012, "New Ventilation Procedure for the Pre-lube Pump Solenoid Valve and Starting Motor Solenoid Valve for Certain G3500B Engines ". The original article was revised to add the reuse or replacement of the starter solenoid check valve.The exhaust ports of the pre-lube solenoid valve and starter solenoid valve must be vented. The vent must route away from the engine. The exhaust must flow freely.Air Starter Solenoid Valve: The starter solenoid valve is shipped with a check valve installed on the exhaust port. The existing check valve has a cap that must be removed if possible. If the cap cannot be removed, remove the entire check valve and install a new check valve in the exhaust line.Manual Operation of the pre-lube solenoid: To operate the pre-lube solenoid valve manually, rotate the manual operator stem clockwise 180 degrees before operating the valve electrically. Refer to Illustration 3.
The exhaust system for the pre-lube and starter solenoid can be routed into an existing exhaust system. Do not connect the pre-lube and starter solenoid valve exhaust together, the exhaust must be routed separately.
Install a check valve in the exhaust system of the starter solenoid and pre-lube solenoid. The check valve must prevent any back pressure to the exhaust vent port. The check valve must operate with pressures up to 1034 kPa (150 psi) and cause minimal restriction. The check valve cracking pressure should be low. Use a poppet style check valve.Exhaust port sizes:
Pre-lube solenoid ports are 3/8 in - 18 NPT
Air starter solenoid ports are 1/4 inch - 18 NPT
