(5) Pressure switch The parking brake switch (2) allows the operator to turn the parking brake ON and OFF. The parking brake indicator (1) shows that the parking brake is engaged or disengaged. The parking brake (3) is connected to the output shaft of the transmission. The parking brake (3) locks the output shaft in order to apply the parking brake. The pressure switch (5) informs the Transmission Electronic Control Module (ECM) that the parking brake is either ON or OFF. The parking brake solenoid (4) controls the flow of oil to the parking brake and from the parking brake. The parking brake is OFF when the solenoid is energized. The parking brake is ON when the solenoid is de-energized.Parking Brake Function
The parking brake will be engaged under the following conditions:
An operator is not present in the seat.
The ECM has been powered up for a minimum of 500 ms.
The operator turns the parking brake switch to the ON position.
The parking brake override is active.The parking brake will be disengaged if all of the following conditions occur:
An operator is present in the seat.
The operator turns the parking brake switch to the OFF position.
The parking brake override is inactive.Parking Brake Override
The parking brake override is a function that is used to prevent the operator from starting the machine while the parking brake switch is in the OFF position.The parking brake override is active under the following conditions:
The ECM has just powered up.
The position of the parking brake switch is unknown and the machine speed is less than 5 km/h (3 mph).Diagnostics can be used to lock the parking brake. Diagnostics prevent the ECM from knowing the position of the parking brake switch. The parking brake override keeps the parking brake engaged when the diagnostics are completed. The operator must cycle the parking brake switch in order to deactivate the parking brake override.The parking brake override is deactivated under the following conditions:
The ECM has been powered up for a minimum of 500 ms and the parking brake switch is in the ON position.
The engine has been running for at least 500 ms. The machine speed is more than 5 km/h (3 mph). The parking brake switch is in the OFF position.Parking Brake Gear Limit Function
The operator can place the transmission into the desired gear when the pressure switch indicates that the parking brake is disengaged.The operator can only shift the transmission into certain gears when the pressure switch indicates that the parking brake is engaged.The transmission can be shifted into the following gears:
NEUTRAL
FIRST GEAR REVERSE
FIRST GEAR FORWARD
FIFTH GEAR FORWARDThe transmission can be shifted into FIFTH GEAR FORWARD in order to test the parking brake. In order to shift into FIFTH GEAR FORWARD, the parking brake switch must be in the ON position. After the operator shifts from NEUTRAL, no other shifts are allowed except back into NEUTRAL.
