Explosion hazard! Do not use ether! This machine is equipped with an air inlet heater. Using ether can create explosions or fires that can cause personal injury or death. Read and follow the starting procedure in the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
The engine start switch must be in the ON position and the engine must be running in order to maintain electrical functions and hydraulic functions. This procedure must be followed in order to prevent serious machine damage.
Open the left rear access door. Secure the access door.

Insert the battery disconnect switch key into the battery disconnect switch. Turn the switch to the ON position.
Close the access door.

(1) Knob for raising the left console
This machine is equipped with an engine neutral start system. The system allows the engine to be started only when the left console is raised. Lift knob (1) in order to raise the left console.
Make sure that the engine speed dial (2) is on position 1.

Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again. Turbocharger damage can result if the engine rpm is not kept low until the oil gauge display verifies that the oil pressure is sufficient.
Turn the engine start switch key (3) to the START position.
The monitoring system starts.Note: For more information on the monitoring system, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Monitoring System".
If the engine start switch is held in the ON position for two seconds or more, the prestart check of the monitoring system will be activated. If any fluid levels are low, the low fluid level will be shown on the message display. If the fluid level is too low, add the corresponding fluid to the specified level before you start the engine.Note: The message "INTAKE AIR HEATER ON" will be shown on the message display if the temperature of the engine coolant is too low. Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. If the engine does not start, allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again. The engine start switch must be turned to the OFF position before trying to restart.
Turn engine start switch (4) to the START position.
Release the engine start switch key after the engine starts.With standard specifications, this machine's engine can start in areas that have temperatures as low as -18°C (0°F). For areas that are cooler, a kit for cold weather starting is available.
