D3B, D3C, D4B TractorsThe governor control lever effort may be too great on the above machines. If a customer complains of excessive governor control effort, use the method that follows to lessen the effort.
1. Disassemble the governor control group to determine if the stainless steel 8Y1677 Plate exists. If the governor control group does not have an 8Y1677 Plate, obtain one from parts stock.2. Drill three holes in the stainless steel 8Y1677 Plate. Use the dimensions given in Illustration 1 or in any similar location as long as the screws are within the inner diameter of the friction disc.
Illustration 1. Dimensions for modifying 8Y1677 Plate.3. Use the same hole pattern, obtained from Step 2, in the 8Y1677 Plate to drill three holes in the 6S8962 Plate. See Illustration 2.
Illustration 2. Dimensions for modifying 6S8962 Plate.4. Use three 8B9263 Drive Screws or any comparable No. 2 × 1/4" drive screws to fasten the 8Y1677 Plate to the 6S8962 Plate. See Illustration 3.
Illustration 3. Location of plate and screw.5. Soak the 5B2551 Disc (Friction Disc) in 10W oil for at least one hour before assembly. Remove the disc from the oil just before assembly and wipe away the excess oil.6. Assemble the governor control group making sure to return the eight disc springs to their original position. See Illustration 4, Detail A.7. Tighten the spring pack to the dimension given in Illustration 4. The lever effort should be comfortable for the operator, but must be able to hold high idle during normal machine operation.
