2. Fasten tooling (B) to the tandem housing as shown. Move the tandem housing toward the final drive until tool (C) just comes in contact with the shaft in the final drive. The weight of the tandem housing is approximately 3600 lb. (1633 kg).3. Hand tighten tool (C) on to the shaft in the final drive. Move the tandem housing toward the machine. The drive sprockets will slide off of tool (C) and on to the shaft in the final drive. 4. Install nuts (2) that hold the tandem housing to the final drive. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 350 15 lb.ft. (475 20 N m).5. Remove tool (C). 6. Use tool (D) and the following procedure to get the correct preload on the final drive bearings.a) Turn the tires as the nut is tightened to a torque of 125 lb.ft. (169 N m).b) Hit the hub of the sprocket with a large punch and a hammer.c) Do Steps 6a and 6b again until the sprocket nut will not turn when a torque of 125 lb.ft. (169 N m) is used to tighten the nut.d) Loosen the nut.e) Tighten the nut to a torque of 75 lb.ft. (102 N m).f) One of the notches in the nut must be in alignment with a hole in the sprocket. Tighten the nut if necessary to get the nut and sprocket in alignment. 7. Connect air line (3). Close the bleed valves on the air tank.8. Lower the machine to the ground. START BY:a) remove final drives 1. Remove bearing cone (1) and O-ring seal (2) from the housing. 2. Put the final drive in position on its end with the planet carrier up as shown. Remove sun gear (3). 3. Fasten a hoist to the planet carrier. Remove planet carrier (4). The weight of the planet carrier is 170 lb. (77 kg). 4. Remove the bolts, locks and retainer (5) that hold shaft (6) in position. 5. Remove shaft (6). Remove gear (7) from the carrier. Remove two roller assemblies (8) and washer (9) from each gear. There is a washer on both sides of each gear. Remove the spacer between the two roller assemblies. 6. Remove ring (10) with tool (A). Remove washer (11). 7. Use a pry bar as a support for gear (12). Remove the bolts, locks and plates (13) that hold gear (12) in place. Use the pry bar to lift the gear enough to install three straps around the gear. Fasten a hoist to the three straps and remove gear (12). The weight of the gear is approximately 98 lb. (44 kg). 8. Put the final drive on its side as shown. Pull shaft (14) out of the final drive part way. Fasten a strap and a hoist to shaft (14) and remove it from the housing. The weight of the shaft is approximately 80 lb. (36 kg). 9.
