On-highway Engine: C13 (S/N: LEE1-UP) C15 (S/N: SDP1-UP)Introduction
This Special Instruction contains procedures that improve the operating temperature of the coolant in the cooling system of C13 and C15 On-highway Engines.The routing of the original shunt line caused problems of overcooling that resulted in complaints of lower fuel economy and emulsion. The following procedure provides instruction for rerouting the shunt line in order to obtain proper operating temperature of the coolant in the C13 and C15 On-highway Engines.Safety
Disconnect batteries before performance of any service work.
Do not operate or work on this engine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact any Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.
Pressurized system: hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine. Wait until radiator is cool. Loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.
