Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
The differential housing is located under the transmission of the scraper.Note: You should move the ejector forward in order to make access to the differential housing easier.

Operate the machine until the differential oil is warm. Park the machine on a level surface. Lower the bowl.
Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.
Clean the area around the drain plug (1) of the differential housing.
Remove the drain plug from the differential housing. Drain the oil into a suitable container.
Clean the drain plug. Install the drain plug.Note: The drain plug (2) for the final drive is located on the hub of the wheel. The plug must be at the lowest point for the plug in order to drain the final drive.

Clean the area around the drain plug.
Remove the drain plug. Drain the oil into a suitable container.
Clean the drain plug. Install the drain plug.
Repeat this procedure for the other wheel.The filler tube (4) for the differential is located at the right rear of the scraper.

Clean the area around the filler cap (4). Remove the cap.
Fill the differential with oil through the filler tube. Fill the differential to the "FULL" mark that is on the dipstick. The dipstick is located under the filler cap (4). Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" and the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for further information.
Clean the filler cap. Install the filler cap.Note: The differential and the final drives share a common oil reservoir. However, the oil level of the final drive housings should be checked.
The drain plugs (2) for the final drives should be located at the lowest point for the plug.
Clean the area around the filler plug (3) .
Remove the filler plug for the final drive. Oil should drip out of the filler plug hole when the final drive is full of oil.
Add oil to the filler plug hole if oil is needed.
Clean the filler plug. Install the filler plug.
Repeat this procedure for the other wheel.
