PRIORITY PIP Termination Date
S, 0036 U-59 A-53 AU-48 B-22 C-55 E-48 O-42 The Priority PIP classification was established in 1981. A Priority PIP is a recommended repair to eliminate potentially expensive failures where the failure of one or more parts may result in damage to other parts or the entire component. Serial numbers are included in the PIP follow system, and dealers are advised to follow Priority PIP's until 100% of the machines included in the Program are reworked. These PIP's should be completed promptly. There is no reason not to complete these except for the same three reasons that apply to Safety PIP's, that is, customer refusal, scrapped product, or unknown location of product. Priority PIP's now have a termination date. Normally, the termination date is about one year from the date of the Service Letter unless the Service Letter indicates otherwise. The termination date represents the last date Caterpillar will participate in the repair. Programs Announced Without Termination Dates In the past, some Priority PIP's have been announced without termination dates. These will now be terminated August 31, 1984. They are (many of these listed Service Letters were not mailed to all dealers because none of the affected machines were in their territory): (SEE ILLUSTRATION) PIP Follow System Serial numbers of units which have not been reworked will now be removed from the PIP Follow System when the termination date occurs.
