GENERATOR SET,
Information:
2. Turn the disconnect switch ON. 3. Pull the knob up to engage the parking brake. 4. Move the transmission directional control lever into NEUTRAL. 5. Pull the lever UP to engage the transmission neutral lock.6. Move the control levers to the HOLD position.7. Depress the accelerator pedal just past the detent. 8. Turn the start switch to start the engine. Release the switch when engine starts.
Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again.Turbocharger (if equipped) damage can result, if the engine rpm is not kept low until the engine oil light/gauge verifies the oil pressure is sufficient.
The low air pressure alarm should sound until air pressure is normal before the parking brake is released, or the transmission control lever is moved from NEUTRAL.Warning lights for supplemental steering and wheel brakes will temporarily light up until the engine oil pressure rises.Engine Starting Below 0°C (+32°F) (If Equipped with Ether Starting Aid)
Inject starting aid (ether), only while cranking the engine, or after initial start-up, until the engine is running smoothly.Use sparingly, excessive ether without cranking can cause piston and ring damage.Wait approximately two seconds before injecting again.Use ether for cold starting purposes only. After every 30 seconds of engine cranking, allow two minutes for starting motor to cool before cranking again.Turbocharger (if equipped) damage can result, if the engine rpm is not kept low until the engine oil light/gauge verifies the oil pressure is sufficient.
1. Be sure the steering frame lock link is in the carry position. 2. Turn the disconnect switch ON. 3. Pull the knob up to engage the parking brake. 4. Depress the accelerator pedal just past the detent. 8. Turn the start switch to start the engine. 9. Push the starting aid (ether) knob and release.10. Operate the start aid switch every two seconds while cranking the engine. Continue use until the engine starts and is running smoothly.11. Release the start switch when engine starts. For starting below -18°C (0°F), use of optional cold weather starting aids is recommended. A coolant heater, fuel heater, jacket water heater or extra battery capacity may be required. At temperatures below -23°C (-10°F), consult your Caterpillar dealer, or refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for Cold Weather Recommendations, SEBU5898, available from your Caterpillar dealer.Engine Starting with Jumper Cables
Batteries give off flammable fumes that can explode resulting in personal injury.Prevent sparks near the batteries. They could cause vapors to explode. Do not allow jumper cable ends to contact each other or the machine.Do not smoke when checking battery electrolyte levels.Electrolyte is an acid and can cause personal injury if it contacts skin or eyes.Always wear eye protection when starting a machine with jumper cables.Improper jumping procedures can cause an explosion resulting in personal injury.Always connect the battery positive (+) to battery
