Before servicing/performing maintenance on the machine, electrical power must be physically disconnected; battery plugs must be disconnected from the batteries, or the trailing cable must be unplugged, and warning tags and padlocks shall be applied by a certified electrician. Certified electricians shall perform or direct any electrical work, including any energized testing, repair work in controllers, motors, or other approved compartments, and shall insure that all compartments are properly closed and inspected prior to re-energization. All applicable lock out and tag out procedures must be followed.
Do not operate the machine if any guards or covers are missing or inadequately secured. Personnel could be seriously injured or machine damage may occur.
Observe the safe working load limits of all lifting and blocking devices and keep a safe distance from suspended/blocked loads. Personnel may be seriously injured or killed by falling loads.
Personal injury or death can result from fumes, gases, and ultraviolet rays from the weld arc. Welding can cause fumes, burn skin, and produce ultraviolet rays. Keep your head out of the fumes. Use ventilation, exhaust at the arc, or both to keep fumes and gases from your breathing area. Wear eye, ear, and body protection before working. Protect yourself and others by reading and understanding this warning. Fumes and gases can be dangerous to your health. Ultraviolet rays from the weld arc can injure eyes and burn skin. Required Parts
New plates will be added to reinforce the accumulator guard. Refer to Table 1. The new plates are to be made out of carbon steel and meet Caterpillar standards or specifications.

Remove any existing welds securing the accumulator box to the trailer cross members. All welds need to be removed and ground flush.

Secure the accumulator so that you can work under the 488-0277 Guard As. Lay out 541-9533 Plate and 541-9532 Plate as shown in Illustration 3. Mark the area in the guard and grind any paint or rust from the area for welding.

Completed guard
Weld the 541-9533 Plate and the 541-9532 Plate in as shown in Illustrations 4 and 5. Once completed, grind any slag and touch up the area with paint.

Mount the accumulator on the frame crossovers and weld into place as shown in Illustration 6. If any material has broken away from 488-0277 Guard As the welds can be built up on those locations filling in any missing material. Use
