Information:
Adaptable To: There are two flexible gasket maker application tubes available. The 1U-8846 Flexible Gasket Maker is available in a 1.5 oz tube. The 4C-5300 Flexible Gasket Maker is available and must be used with a manual caulking gun. See the chart for the effectivity, adaptable to first production.
Illustration 1. Typical view of oil pan group. (A) 8T-9014 Clear Silicone Sealant application. (B) 1U-8846/4C-5300 Gasket Maker application.Procedure for application of the new 1U-8846/4C5300 Gasket Maker.
Items Needed:
* 1U-8846 (1.5 oz tube)/4C-5300 (10.5 oz tube) Gasket Maker.* Putty knife* Nylon abrasive pad (3M Scotch Brite© green pad)* 6V-1541 Quick Cure Primer* 8T-9011 Component Cleaner* Manual caulking gun* 8T-9014 Clear SiliconeSurface Preparation Instructions:
*1. Remove the 7E-2633 Gasket or the cured flexible gasket maker from between the two oil pan sections. Disassembly of mating parts stuck together with cured gasket maker is best accomplished through tension.The1U-8846/4C-5300 Flexible Gasket Maker is weak in tension but strong in shear strength.
*2. Using a sharp putty knife or nylon abrasive pad, scrape all old gasket or cured gasket maker from both oil pan mating surfaces.*3. Remove dirt, grease and oil from both mating surfaces with either the 8T-9011 Component Cleaner or Isopropyl Alcohol. All contact surfaces must be completely clean before proceeding to the next step. Allow surface to air dry.*4. Prime both mating surfaces with 6V-1541 Quick Cure Primer and allow surfaces to air dry.*5. Inspect both mating surfaces to ensure sealant applied to one surface will contact the other surface.*6. Apply the 1U-8846/4C-5300 Gasket Maker in an unbroken bead onto one of the mating surfaces (B) illustration 1, fully surrounding all bolt holes. A manual caulking gun must be used with the 4C-5300 Flexible Gasket Maker.*7. Assemble components as soon as possible to eliminate the potential of foreign matter collecting on the surface to be sealed. Torque fasteners to specification. If oil is allowed to drip on either mating surface, the gasket maker will not cure and a leak will develop.*8. Remove excess gasket maker that has extruded from the joint with one of the solvents listed.*9. Apply the 8T-9014 Clear Silicone to multiple locations on the oil pan and oil pan gasket as shown in illustration 2.*10. Assemble oil pan assembly to the engine block. Allow the assembled and tightened joint to cure for 30 minutes before performing any pressure checks or installing oil.
