The service switches are located on the dash panel in the tractor's cab and on the Scraper's control panel. These switches are intended to be used by service personnel only. The switches connect to the Caterpillar Monitoring System. The Caterpillar Monitoring System then communicates with the power train ECM. On this machine, a separate service tool is not required to perform diagnostic procedures. The following instructions are used to access information regarding the Machine Control ECM only. Refer to Systems Operation, "Caterpillar Monitoring System" in order to learn about the different modes and the operation of the display area. See the Testing And Adjusting portion in order to troubleshoot the diagnostic codes for the Machine Control ECM. While the Caterpillar Monitoring System is in normal mode, and the power train system indicator (15) is flashing, a diagnostic code is present in the Machine Control ECM.

The diagnostic code indicator shows "SERV CODE" when any diagnostic code is present. This includes problems with the Caterpillar Monitoring System or the Machine Control ECM.Procedure
Use the following procedure to troubleshoot the diagnostic code information. Locate the service switches on the dash panel in the tractor's cab or on the scraper's control panel.
Place the Caterpillar Monitoring System in service mode. Press and hold the service switch. This will cause the Caterpillar Monitoring System to scroll through the available submodes. Release the service switch while the mode number "-5-" is shown on the display. This will place the system in service mode. Note: The diagnostic scrolling mode may be entered in order to see the diagnostic codes, but the diagnostic codes can be easily diagnosed with the service mode. The service mode allows the diagnostic codes to be placed on hold for further investigation. The service mode also allows the diagnostic codes to be cleared
