Example of Cross-Section View (1) Bucket icon (2) Cross-section of design featuresThe Cross-Section View displays the following types of information:Vertical alignment features:
Design surface
Working surface
Temporary working surfaceHorizontal alignment features:
Roading alignments
Sloping surface alignments
3D lines
The selected horizontal guidance line and offsetGuidance information:
Focus point
Vertical guidance point(s)Note: Cross-Section View will only display the machine bucket when high accuracy positions are available. When high accuracy positions are not available, the bucket symbol disappears from the screen, and the last valid cross-section stays on the screen until high accuracy positions are restored. For a SVD, TIN, grid, 3D line, slope design, or level design, the cross-section is drawn through the center of the bucket and at right angles to the direction of travel. Illustration 2 shows a Cross-Section View of a "2 FT" vertical offset.

Cross-Section View of a SVD road design showing the three possible cross-sectional surfaces (3) Bucket (4) Temporary working surface (5) Vertical offset (6) Working surface (7) Design surfaceNote: When a machine is on a SVD, TIN, grid, 3D line, slope design, or level design, the Cross-Section View of the bucket will decrease in width as you angle the bucket away from the direction of travel.Table 1 explains the items shown in Illustration 2. These surfaces are available for all design types including road designs. For more information, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Vertical Guidance".
Table 1
Cross-Section Surfaces
Item     Description
Design Surface     The surface defined by the design.
The design surface is displayed in the following colors:
Black, if the design surface is the working surface
Red, if the design surface is the working surface and the vertical offset is zero
Gray, if a working surface has been specified
The cross-section is projected square to the machine's direction of travel from the center of the bucket. The cross-section extends up to 100 m on each side of the machine.
Working surface     An intermediate target surface. The working surface is displayed in the following colors:
Black, if the vertical offset is non-zero and a temporary working surface has been specified
Red, if the vertical offset is zero and there is no temporary working surface
Temporary working     A surface vertically offset from the working surface. This is the surface that is being cut to or filled to on this run. The temporary working surface is displayed in red.    For a DC road design, the cross-section is calculated through the bucket tip with focus and at right angles to the master alignment of the road. Illustration 3 shows the Cross-Section View of a road design, with the design surface selected as the working surface, and with no vertical offset applied.
