Remove two bolts (11) , the washers, and the nuts that secure the upper half of heat shield (10) to the lower half of the heat shield. Remove two bolts (12) and the washers that secure the upper half of the heat shield to the engine. Remove the upper half of heat shield (10) from the machine.

Remove two nuts (13) and the washers that secure the lower half of heat shield (9) to the exhaust guard. Remove the lower half of heat shield (9) from the machine.

The air inlet hose is removed for photographic purposes.
Remove clamp (14) that secures muffler (15) to turbocharger (3) . Remove the air inlet hose that connects adapter (16) on the muffler to the precleaner.

Remove two bolts (17) and the washers that secure muffler (15) to the mounting bracket. Remove muffler (15) from turbocharger (3) . The weight of the muffler is approximately 15 kg (33 lb) .Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Install muffler (15) to turbocharger (3) . The weight of the muffler is approximately 15 kg (33 lb). Install two bolts (17) and the washers that secure muffler (15) to the mounting bracket.

The air inlet hose is removed for photographic purposes.
Connect the air inlet hose from the precleaner to adapter (16) on the muffler. Install clamp (14) that secures muffler (15) to turbocharger (3) .

Position the lower half of the heat shield (9) to the exhaust guard. Install two nuts (13) and the washers that secure the lower half of heat shield (9) to the exhaust guard.

Position the upper half of heat shield (10) to the lower half of the heat shield and the engine. Install two bolts (12) and the washers that secure the upper half of the heat shield to the engine. Install two bolts (11) , the washers, and the nuts that secure the upper half of heat shield (10) to the lower half of the heat shield.

Install bolt (8) that secures the lower half of heat shield (9) to the upper half of heat shield (10) . Repeat the procedure for the other side of the heat shield.

Position tube (6) to turbocharger (3) . Install two bolts (7) that secure tube (6) to turbocharger (3) .

Connect tube (6) to the water temperature regulator. Tighten retaining nut (5) .
Connect coolant hose (2) to the elbow. Tighten retaining nut (4) .

Connect coolant hose (2) to turbocharger (3) . Tighten retaining nut (1) .End By:
Install the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install" .
Install the exhaust extension. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Extension - Remove and Install" .
