(20) Compensator The final drive is a planetary gear system that increases the torque to the wheels, and the final drive transfers the torque to the wheels. Each wheel is driven by chain (17) that connects final drive sprocket (7) to wheel sprocket (15) on each wheel spindle (19). The final drive also provides the pivot point for each tandem wheel.The differential drives sun gear and shaft (1). Planetary gear (13) is driven by sun gear (1). Planetary gear (13) rotates on the inside of ring gear (3). Planetary gear (13) drives carrier (2). Carrier (2) is splined to output shaft (8).Two sprockets (7) are splined onto each output shaft (8) of the final drive. These sprockets (7) are in the center of the tandem drive between the wheels. Chain (17) that is between the center and wheel sprockets (15) drives each wheel on the tandem drive. Wheel spindle (19) is splined to wheel sprocket (15). Wheel sprocket (15) turns wheel spindle (19).Tandem housing (16) is connected with bolts to pivot housing (11). Pivot housing (11) allows the wheels to oscillate tandem housing (16). Two wear rings (10), washers (5) and two seals (4) are between final drive housing (12) and pivot housing (11).Wheel spindle housings (18) also contain the components for the service brakes. The brake components are lubricated and cooled by the oil in the tandem housing. This oil is circulated by the movement of the wheels. The compensator (20) can be used for checking the wear to brake components.Reference: Refer to the Braking and Hydraulic Fan System System Operation, "Service Brakes" for additional information concerning the compensator.
Hydraulic Oil Additive
The service brakes on this machine are designed for operation with a hydraulic oil additive in the tandem oil. This additive reduces brake noise and the additive also reduces grabbing of the brakes.Reference: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities Refill" or the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for information regarding the addition of this Hydraulic Oil Additive.
