3500 And 3600 Families of Commercial EnginesDescription of Change: The air starter motor housing and silencer have new light-weight aluminum replacements. These aluminum parts reduce the overall weight of the starting motor group. This results in less strain on the four air starter mounting bolts. The silencer, previously made of two parts, has a new one-piece design. All the aluminum parts have the same reliability and life as the older, heavier parts. Adaptable To: The new 107-8769 Silencer replaces the former two-piece 8N-8488 Silencer and 8N-8447 Elbow [part of 7C-2971, 7C-4167, and 7C-5104 Air Motor Starting Groups (see Chart B)]. See the illustration. A 112-6597 Air Starting Motor Silencer Group is available to replace the former 8N-8486 Silencer Group (see Chart C).
New 107-8769 Silencer.Two new starting motor assemblies are available and replace three former air starting motor assemblies. (see Chart A). A 111-4399 Housing replaces the 5N-8364 Housing (part of Air Starting Motor Assembly). The changes are adaptable to earlier production models.
If the air starter motor is not scheduled for overhaul, the silencer should be replaced as soon as possible. This will help reduce the overall weight of the group until the housing is replaced.
When changing to the new aluminum parts, the four 5N-8427 Bolts (mounting) should be replaced.
