The principal working component in the vibratory system is the eccentric weight. The vibratory motor rotates the eccentric weight on a shaft inside the rolling drum. The rotation of the weight generates a dynamic, or centrifugal force that is significantly greater in magnitude than the static weight of the machine.The rotational speed of the eccentric weight shaft determines the vibratory frequency. Frequency is expressed in Hertz (Hz) or in vibrations per minute (VPM).The vibratory system on the machine can be either a fixed frequency system or a variable frequency system. Either of these configurations may have the propel interlock option. Therefore, a machine can be equipped with any of the following configurations:
Fixed frequency vibration without propel interlock
Fixed frequency vibration with propel interlock
Variable frequency vibration without propel interlock
Variable frequency vibration with propel interlockThe vibratory frequency on the fixed frequency machine is affected by engine speed. On machines that are equipped with the variable frequency vibratory system, a potentiometer controls the vibratory frequency. The propel interlock option allows the vibratory system to operate only when the shift switch is in the LOW SPEED position.
