Operational Checks
Verify that the hydraulic system of the host machine is functioning properly. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting procedures of the host machine.Operate the work tool in each direction and at different engine speeds. Note the noises that are not normal and find the sources of the noises. If the work tool is not operating properly, refer to the following troubleshooting problem list.Troubleshooting Problem List
Problem ListNote: This section contains the troubleshooting procedures for the hydraulic system of the work tool. Some specific areas may not be discussed. (1) The production of the work tool has decreased. (2) The jaws of the work tool close slowly. (3) The cutters do not cut properly. (4) The hydraulic oil overheats. (5) The work tool operates erratically. (6) The speed control valve does not operate in high speed mode upon closing the jaw. (7) The speed control valve does not change to high speed mode. (8) The speed control valve shifts to high speed properly, but the jaw lacks power.Problem 1 The production of the work tool has decreased.Probable causes
The hydraulic oil pressure or oil flow is insufficient. Refer to Service Manual, "Host Machine Pressure and Flow - Test".
The ball valves are not completely open. Open the ball valves.
The air release valve is open. Refer to Service Manual, "Hydraulic System Air - Purge".
There is an external leak in the system. Inspect the hydraulic system for leaks on the host machine and on the work tool.
The cylinder is leaking internally. Refer to Service Manual, "Hydraulic Cylinder Leakage - Test" for information on testing the hydraulic cylinder for leakage.
The speed control valve is out of adjustment. Refer to Service Manual, "Speed Control Valve (Hydraulic Cylinder) - Test and Adjust" for information on testing the speed control valve.
The teeth or the cutting edges are worn. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Crusher Tooth and Ripper Tooth - Replace or Cutting Edges - Inspect/ Replace".
There is excessive clearance in the teeth and in the cutting edges. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Crusher Tooth and Ripper Tooth - Replace or Cutting Edges - Inspect/ Replace".
There is excessive clearance in the hinge of the jaw. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Jaw - Repair".
The work tool is not designed for the application. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General information".Problem 2The jaws of the work tool close slowly.Probable causes
