Machine Lifting/Tiedown Information
Improper lifting or tiedowns can allow load to shift and cause injury or damage.
For basic machine specifications, Refer to Specifications and Model Views in the General Section of this manual.Weights and instructions given herein apply to units manufactured by Caterpillar Inc.CB-545:9040 kg (19,888 lb) W/O ROPS9720 kg (21,430 lb) W/ROPS and cab.Use properly rated cables and slings for lifting.Position the crane or lifting device for a level machine lift.Spreader bar widths should be sufficient to prevent contact with machine. 1. Attach lifting cables to front and rear lifting eyes on both sides of the machine. These lifting eyes are identified on the machine by a hook symbol.2. Connect the four lifting cables to spreader bars centered over the machine.3. Lift and move the machine.4. When the machine is in position, block the drums. 5. Support the front and rear drums on each side with suitable blocks. Failure to do this can cause machine damage. 6. Secure the machine with tie-downs. Obey all state and local laws governing the weight, width and length of a load. Observe all regulations governing wide loads. Remove the starting aid (ether) cylinder, if equipped. Make sure the cooling system has proper antifreeze if moving machine to a colder climate.
Investigate the travel route for overpass clearances. Make sure there will be adequate clearance for the machine being transported.To prevent the machine from slipping while loading or shifting in transit, remove ice, snow or other slippery material from the loading dock and transport vehicle before loading. 1. Block the trailer or rail car wheels before loading (trailer shown).2. Apply the parking brake.3. Turn the engine start switch key to OFF and remove the key.4. Block and tie-down machine. Refer to Machine Lifting/Tie-down Information in this section for details.5. Lock the access covers and attach any vandalism protection. 6. Cover the exhaust opening. Turbocharger damage can result if the turbocharger rotates without the engine operating.Contact your Caterpillar dealer for additional shipping instructions for your machine.Machine Roading
Perform a Walk-Around Inspection and measure the fluid levels in the various compartments. Refer to Every 10 Service Hours or Daily in the Maintenance Section of this manual for more detailed information.Check with the proper officials to obtain required permits, etc.Install any required flags, signals or lights.Travel at a moderate speed. Observe all speed limitations when roading the machine.
