Information:
This diagnostic code is associated with the position sensor that is embedded in the Right Steering (Articulation) Sensor. The position sensor provides a PWM input signal to the Steering ECM and to the Transmission ECM. The FMI 13 diagnostic code is activated when the ECM detects a sensor that needs calibration.The sensor is a PWM sensor that operates at a frequency of approximately 500 100Hz. The duty cycle of the PWM signal that is supplied to the ECM is measured in small increments. The changes in the duty cycle of the sensor cannot be measured with a digital multimeter.Test Step 1. CALIBRATION
Perform the calibration procedure for the sensor. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Calibration" Story in this manual for the correct calibration procedure.Expected Result:The calibration procedure was performed successfully.Results:
OK - The calibration procedure was performed successfully. Resume normal machine operation.STOP
NOT OK - The calibration was not successful.Repair: Repeat the calibration procedure for the sensor.If the second calibration procedure is not successful, replace the position sensor of the steer cylinder.After replacement of the sensor, the new parameters of the position sensor MUST be entered in Cat® ET before the machine can be operated. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Position Sensor (Steering Cylinder) - Set" Story in this manual for the correct procedure.After cylinder replacement, refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Calibration" Story in this manual for the correct procedure. If the problem is still present after replacement and calibration of the new sensor, the ECM may have failed.Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact the Technical Communicator at your dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may effect repair time. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace" in this manual for additional information.STOP
