At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the work tool hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Open the jaw of the work tool. Place the work tool on the ground and shut off the engine of the host machine.
Release the hydraulic pressure for the host machine. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine.
Inspect the swivel of the work tool for hydraulic leaks. Inspect the hydraulic hoses and all of the hydraulic fittings for the cylinder. If there is external evidence of leakage around the swivel, a repair of the swivel is required. Refer to the Service Manual, "Swivel - Disassemble". If there is external evidence of leakage around any of the hoses or the fittings, repairing the leaks is required.Note: Before you test the cylinder for leakage, testing the swivel for leakage is required. Refer to the Service Manual, "Swivel Leakage - Test".

Close the ball valve for the jaw close circuit. The ball valve is mounted on the stick of the host machine.
Install 8T-0860 Pressure Gauge in port (1). A pressure gauge must be installed on both ports (1). Two pressure gauges must be used.
Start the engine of the host machine. Allow the hydraulic system to rise to operating temperature.
Move the control for the work tool to the jaw open position. Hold the control in the jaw open position for a short time.
Check the pressure reading on the pressure gauges. The pressure reading of the pressure gauge in the jaw open circuit must be 350 bar (5075 psi). The pressure reading of the pressure gauge in the jaw close circuit must be zero.
