This procedure must be followed to assure the Electronic Locomotive Control system has been correctly installed and calibrated.1. Close the battery switch to apply power to the system. All lights on the Electronic Locomotive Control Box should turn on for approximately five seconds after the power is applied. If the lights do not come on, check for power to the control box. If no power is found, check wiring. It is normal for the BOX FAULT light to FLASH ONCE before all the lights turn on.2. After the light test is complete, check to see if the fourth light from the bottom of the decal is ON. If it is ON, the personality module is in the CALIBRATE mode and must be changed to the RUN mode before the checkout can continue. To change the personality module to the RUN mode, use the procedure that follows.A. Remove plug (1) on the personality module marked CAL.B. Turn switch (2) under plug (1) clockwise until it clicks. The fourth light from the bottom of the decal should turn OFF.C. Install plug (1) on the personality module.

(2) Switch.3. Look at the lights on the Electronic Locomotive Control Box. No fault lights should be ON. The shutdown light should be ON. If any fault lights are ON, refer to TROUBLESHOOTING for that fault and make any needed changes.4. Calibrate the rack sensor. See the rack sensor calibration procedure.5. Start the engine. If the engine will not start, see TROUBLESHOOTING.6. Check engine speed in all notches.7. Check engine load in the low notches against the brakes. If the engine will not load see TROUBLESHOOTING.
