Wheel Coolant
Without coolant, excessive use of brakes can generate enough heat to burn the tire bead, and possibly cause the tire to explode with considerable force.
Coolant solution consist of 50% permanent-type antifreeze and 50% water. To check coolant level: On either later or earlier machines, position wheel so fill plug is level with centerline of axle. Later Machines: 1. Remove fill plug and check coolant level. Level should be to bottom of fill plug opening.2. If necessary, add coolant solution to bring level to bottom of fill plug opening.3. Install fill plug and tighten. Earlier Machines: On earlier drive wheels, a brake drum stud must be removed for filling and checking. Non-drive wheels on the earlier machines may not have a plug in the outside wall of the wheel. Addition of a plug will greatly facilitate the coolant level check procedure.1. Remove fill plug or brake drum stud.2. If necessary, add coolant solution to bring level to bottom of fill plug opening.3. Install plug or stud and tighten. Use thread lock compound to prevent leaking from the stud holes. Draft Arm Flange Bolts
Retighten all draft arm flange bolts on each side to 520 60 lb-ft (71.8 8.3 mkg) (707 82 N m) after initial 100, 250, and 500 service hours, or when loose bolts are apparent or suspected.
